Folks I have this cane, it is made of bamboo or a similar material but what I would like to know is the maker and the age, I have a couple of photos.
    Many thanks in advance.

Well after a few tries, I think the date letter is for 1918. Unfortunately I haven't found a TD maker's mark that would come even close to matching that period of time. I'll keep looking, though.

Congrats on posting your first thread!

Thank you for the help, look forward to all info on this, I do know it is from London, thought the maker could be Dicks. Then the date would be wrong though ??

By close to 100 years. ;) He died in 1832 and his TD marks weren't used after 1822 when he went into a partnership.

That date letter is very distinctive to the 1916-1935 cycle in London. My struggle at first was thinking it might be a g, but the top of the g doesn't match your punch.

In addition, if this was marked in the early 1800's, it's missing the monarch's head (not a huge deal) but the lion's head would be crowned (which it doesn't appear to be.)

I can't find a single London TD maker in the 20th century. It may have to be a mystery for the moment.

Mystery adventures are good, always good to get the answer in the end though, will have to treat this one as a detective thread.

Small point. Just because it's a London assay mark, doesn't mean it was made there. ;)

    Actually a good point, Bear!

@Skukuza Can you post a picture that shows the TD more directly and also captures that 4 "petal" mark next to it?

It is also a good plan to include a picture of the whole object or at least the whole head. forgotten
Bamboo like material is probably rattan.

THe actual maker was just some blokes in a shed, their names forgotten. Unless things have the mark of stars like Paul d'Lamerie, Omar Ramsden or Hester Bateman, the specific maker is usually an irrelevance.
