Featured Tiffany Studios - Whatsit?

Posting for a friend. Not sure what this is. 4.5" x 3" x 1.25". #977 brings up nothing that matches. Also, not the grapevine or pine needle pattern one usually sees. Found a couple matching larger open boxes but no match to this of any kind. Sellers have not named the pattern. One said it pre-dates the other patterns but have found no proof. I have a guess but would like to see if anyone can find or have other ideas. Thanks!

 

there was a discussion about the beaded edges desk set pieces recently on a FB group, supposedly the beaded edge pieces are earlier.

 

No idea, but that's a score ... and nobody "cleaned" it!

We don't know. Have not found anything even remotely similar. Have found the larger pen tray you show above in the same pattern but it does not really match the grapevine or pine needle patterns.

There appears to be a lot of good information in the sites you have posted but not finding anything about this piece. Like those original prices in the catalog!

 

Found this picture on Pinterest that has another with the bar (maybe a bit deeper?). Of course no information

 

ya...at 4 1/2 inches....not for pens.....but still the design looks good for that kind of desk set........... stamps maybe??

 

now that bar should be a give a way.....to it's use.....
maybe if we ask an older member here.....from days gone by.....if they remember it's function......

Here's one with a bar, maybe similar but the metal needles or whatever they are appear to be flipped, oriented the opposite direction . Although maybe it's because it is the other side of the piece. This page calls it an ash tray. That can't be right, can it? And the metal is very shiny!

Details: Antique Tiffany Studios Green Glass Vine Pattern Bronze Trinket Box.

Measuring 4 1/2" wide by 3" deep by 1 1/2" high, this decorative Tiffany box is of open design, without lid. Made of green stained glass and bronze. Stamped on bottom, "Tiffany Studios New York 978."

 

Cross bar would be needed if there was a little lid that needed to be supported. Still doesn't make much sense, as there is only one compartment.
