    Hi all,

Got this box with some vintage jewelry a while back.

Anything that looks interesting, or mostly regular stuff?

Thinking of throwing some of them on international listing sites, as they don't really sell well here in South Africa.

Some of them are not the best quality - a couple of stones missing, and the like.

I quite like the brooch in the guilded metal box, but can't find out much about them?

    Thanks

The one with the two women "looks" like it could be sterling and enamel, whats the chain attached to ?

I forgot to say, that specific one is marked :embarassed: It is marked #Pretoria badges and S.S. (which was a local badge manufacturer here - so that one seems to be more badge than brooch...)

The chain is connected to a small pin.

But I can't find whom the badge was for.

Interesting. What does the clasp on the back of that one look like?

Also, what type of pin is at the end of the chain? A straight pin, or does it have a closure like a safety pin?

this is what I can tell you the goldtone bracelet is called a mesh bracelet, the necklace is called a bib necklace. Did you look on the stem of the brooches?

I'd look again at the tennis racket for some small mark.
    It's delightful.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Here are some of the "backs".

Oh yes, and it is a small safety pin at the end of the chain on the badge/brooch

The one with the chain looks to be the oldest from what I can see. It looks like it might have a C Clasp but hard to tell. I bet if you get a sunshine cloth and wipe it down you will see some marks on stem or where the chain attaches. I would be suprised if you didnt the tennis one same look on stem. The one missing the 2 stones if it was me I would pop the stones out and hold on to them incase I needed later on for replacing stones and toss the brooch. The one in the box you are fond of just because it is in that box doesnt mean it is what is written on the box it looks nice. The screwback earrings I cant see what the setting is. Do you have a scanner? If so scan them and maybe we can see them better

So, I cleaned the jewelry and it revealed a couple of things, but nothing I can decipher as yet.

The brooch/badge with safety pin has two very very small (can't decipher even when looking through loupe) numbers or letters on the rim of the brooch. It also has a small golden "blotch" close to the clasp, but that could be the glue that was used to fix the clasp to the brooch. Ps. It is a c-clasp, as is the clasp on the tennis racquet and also on the flower (gold-tone).

The flower brooch appears to be tin. And the flower can rotate (like a windmill) on the clasp. Which is pretty neat. With the tennis brooch, the "textured handle" part is actually a piece of carton/paper wrapped around the handle. I could take that off, but still no marks that are visible. The only thing I did notice after I cleaned is, was two raised (small but visible) dots, where the handle and the net meets.

Will post photos of the cleaner items in the morning (light too weak right now).

I dont see a C clasp in the flower brooch with the stone are ypu sure it is not broken? Maybe I am wrong and some will chime in but I am getting a newer vibe than a C clasp time

The tennis pin looks like it's missing a cap to hold the handle on.....it's still got moxy !!

This is a photo of the clasp of the flower brooch. Please let me know if I misunderstand c-clasps, I aim to learn...

Here are some photos now that they are slightly cleaner.

On the brooch with the chain there seems to be a very lightly engraved "S" between badge and Pretoria. Only visible with a loop. Could that be a hallmark?

On the tennis brooch there are two obviously raised dots at the base of the net. It is only on the one side of the base. Also is it a c-clasp? It seems to be "turned" more than the ones I have seen before...

Nothing new on the flower brooch. Just wanted a better pic of the clasp.
