This is where I banked as a kid, which at the time was a branch of the Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Looks Deco, so I guess it was built in the 20s. I don't remember the inside too well, but do recall that it was nice.

What I remember very clearly was standing at the corner outside watching John Kennedy waving to everyone as his motorcade went by during his campaign for President. :)

They weight coinage here too, when someone is depositing rolls, or at least they used to. Loose mixed coinage went through a sorter. These days they can't really weigh the coins any more, since they keep changing what goes into them. Banks don't have coin counters for transactions with the public either. (sigh) One more source of childhood fun gone.

Well, I was in banking from the late 70's until 2006. Even spent some time managing the branches of one, so I had to know everything the tellers did. Never saw a scale for weighing coins, rolled or loose. Yes, we kept track of which rolls were deposited by which customer - but the rolls were opened later and counted, just in case. More often than not they were correct. Biggest "problem" was Canadian pennies. ;)

There's also a realty agency downtown that was a bank. The manager uses the vault as his office

I was tempted to open my art gallery in a bank on a trendy street, but alas , they wanted $10,000 a month ......in 1990 dollars.:shifty::shifty:
