Those look like molded glass; you can see it on the ends. The holes are molded rather than cut, and if they're heavy and cold that means glass. Heavy and less cold can be lucite, which is just as good if not better. Lighter and not cold is garden variety plastic. Amethyst is a different purple, would have sharp edges on the facets, and is a totally different color.

That picture was bad. They are sharper than they appear in it and the holes are definitely drilled

    These are molded

Terry, a Presidium gem tester can point you in the right direction..... do you know anyone with one? Hubby bought me one for my birthday one year. Great score on the beads, especially the cherry amber bakelite! I also found a pair of earrings with the black beads you show above, turned out they were carved onyx.

I am wondering what the coral-colored beads are- they are interesting, too.

The salmon colored ones with the metal between them really looks like Bakelite but 409 and simichrome didn't get anything off them.

The Bell Telephone System broke up in the early '80s, so the sign is at least earlier than that.

It should pre-date 1966 - when the Area Code system in the US and Canada (including the 800 numbers) - was fully implemented. The use of the 2-letter "exchange" was also pretty much eliminated at that point as well.

We still would have said 'cyclone 8' into the seventies

Going back on this thread, those name your poison glasses seem to be quite popular with many.
I came across a similar set at a sale that were from Neiman Marcus that were more recent.

We were "CY" way back when -- it stood for "Cypress." ;)

The only other exchange in the whole "town" was "BR" -- it sounded so "cosmopolitan" because it stood for "Broadway."

We were "CL" for Cloverdale, which I always thought sounded so quaint and small town. 'Cept we were in the middle of Brooklyn! :)

I would have preferred living in a quaint small town, so maybe it was wishful thinking on my part.

I don't think we ever had a letter code phone number. Maybe when I was too young to know my phone number. I'd guess that dates to the 50s.

We only had numbers, no letters, too. I am no spring chicken, either.

So I just wanted to drive to a nearby town and walk a certain path for exercise. I did want to stop a thrift shop there, but they are now out of business. I wandered around and did find a twilight zone consignment store...... and I did find some treasures!

Most of the jewelry was $5 or $10 dollars. The necklaces were $10:

Needs the clasp fixed, 14k and onyx bead necklace, currently 28" of beads:

Desert Rose Trading Co. by Jay King, sterling and coral 20" necklace:

And ivory, amethyst, and netsuke necklace with I believe a replaced clasp of sterling

    12k GF bangle, $5

Miscellaneous items, the sterling earrings were $10, pink stones test as topaz, the rest was $5 each. I know, I know, the Tiffany is totally a fake. The flower is sterling and a pin/pendant combo. I do believe the bracelet is genuine turquoise.

My bestest things yesterday were a Lea Stein cat brooch for five quid and a Ciro boxed pearl necklace with gold clasp for the same price! Both vendors knew what they were selling, too. I didn't haggle. ;)

I love Lea Stein's animal pieces, Bear! Good finds! Do you know that all of her cat pins have a style name? You can google them. I do recall Sasha is one.

My best find(s) in years... three 1950s Cissy doll dresses by Madame Alexander. Spent all of $9 at the thrift. Sold for a total just under $900. :)
