@Bronwen, I’m watching that Tiffany cameo, it’s fabulous!

I saved and splurged for the custom cameo of my daughter and I am very pleased with the results! It was carved by Accanito of The Cameo Collection, and purchased through Casco Cameos on bEtsy. (Lynn was a joy to deal with, so attentive and concerned for my happiness and satisfaction.)

What does Emma think of it? Did you know they were going to make her in roses bedight? Accanito made good use of the natural undulation of the shell. Hope you plan to wear it sometimes? (It's instructive to see how it was set & style of findings & know just when it was made.) The cameo together with the photo is going to be a very special heirloom someday. So pleased with how it turned out. :)

Emma loves it! I wore it today to a bridal shower. I must start wearing cameos more often... but I rarely have occasion to dress up anymore. I wear scrubs at work and jeans/shirts at home.
I actually asked for it to have a more classical look and be a lot less frou-frou and flowery than the current trend. The final product has more flowers than I expected but I'm very pleasantly surprised with how well I like it as it is.
"Roses bedight"... what a lovely way of putting it!

I vacillated on the year to have inscribed on the back: the year it was carved or the year of the photo. I ended up with the year of the photo.

Hindsight is always 20/20. You could have had Accanito put the year of making under his name. Bet you got lots of oohs & ahhs when you wore it to the bridal shower. :)

What a curious piece this is. The subject matter & way the color layers of the shell have been used to put the white as the background are very 20th century, but the mount is much earlier in style. Yet it looks as though the bezel follows the unique shape of the shell.

Fawkes? That looks like either the phoenix from Harry Potter or a Pern-ian dragonet.

As long as it doesn't self-immmolate!

It's shell, not celluloid. Otherwise I'd have to worry.

Seller only has the two photos and simply says that it's 9ct and, "believed to be Edwardian".

I'd think that was correct, or close to, if not for the New Age-y imagery. Just plain weird.

    @bluumz Of dormice & men:

Most cameo versions do not pick up this detail.

I have read much that got written about the imagery & symbolism & never once did anyone I found think of a dormouse. They all cribbed off each other, so certain ideas get repeated. 'The lethargical marmot' is my favorite. Marmots are like groundhogs.

wait, what? Why are we talking about a dormouse?

'Cause bluumz is catering to my obsessions via PM & wanted to show her why I think it's a dormouse & not a marmot or a squirrel.

Isn't this the sort of thing most people talk about?

BTW, if anyone finds a good cameo with this figure, please do let me know. :)

For the UK followers of this thread who may be thinking, "That looks nothing like a dormouse!"
