Middle Eastern or Egypt in origin. Does seem to have a bit of age to it.

The inlay has a lot of bone and some wood, which is more typical of North Africa, or even Cordoba, Spain, former Moorish territory. The diagonal banding is also seen a lot in Cordoba.
Syrian style pieces would have more mother of pearl and more inlay.
I don't think it started out life as a desk. Maybe a vanity table, ca 1890-1900?

Prices differ from place to place, it is best to look in your region.
I am sure Alexandria has fine antique shops, why don't you take a look there if you see something similar. Maybe they would even be interested in buying it.
But check prices in different places first, so you know what is reasonable for a piece like this.

 

the whole construction and form is European. with a marble top Italian. eventually from Italian East Africa or Lybia.

 

I see no reason why this couldn't be European influenced Egyptian. It was probably made before the Italian occupation of Lybia (1911).
The type of inlay is North African Moorish, with that much bone and inlaid wood. East Africa followed the decorative styles that were fashionable in Yemen and Oman.

The cities along North Africa's north coast, like Alexandria, have had extensive trade with Italy for thousands of years, influencing both regions north and south of the Mediterranean. Some parts, like Tunisia, have had an important Italian minority since ancient times, and a great influx of Italians in the mid-19th century.
It is in these cities, from Egypt to Morocco, that you see a fashion for a European-North African Moorish mix, particularly from the mid-19th century onward.
