    Some of you may know about Goldfield Nevada. Perhaps even get my 'Point' in the title. ;) I have been there a few times.
    None other than Wyatt and Virgil Earp served there.
    This item is supposedly from the still in existence 1907 Goldfield Hotel though may not have had its restoration completed as yet.
    The hotel is where 'Super Soul', the late Cleavon Little, did his radio show in the movie. ;)

    I got this today and even if I only had the attached plate I would be happy. :)

    The family supposedly stayed here at last once.

    Before I posted the previous and following info I came across this but still thought you may want to see this item should you come across similar>>> Do you have a Goldfield Hotel brass & copper spittoon, bed warmer, oil lamp or other? In the 1980’s the late Gary Wakefield had a number of “reproduction” items for sale in his shop in Reno, NV. The brass items all had plates on them that read * GOLDFIELD HOTEL, GOLDFIELD NEVADA. All these items were made to order in Mexico, there were no originals, they are all modern fantasy pieces. The brass oil lamps were about 17 inches high and the burners marked Kosmos Brenner. Shorter double lamps were also made. Other reproductions made were, GANS-NELSON FIGHT PROGRAMS GOLDFIELD, NEVADA 1906. <<<
    ~~~
    This is all brass, about 6" tall by 6" in diameter and they had no clue what it was for.
    The plate is attached with rivets hammered by hand from within or from without over a form using a concave riveting tool.
    ~
    *The most suspicious thing right off is that there seems to be a plastic film under the plate.
    ~
    The top brackets are bolted on with nuts inside.
    Anyone know what it is and what may be missing? Some type of light fixture or part of that oil lamp?
    Some how I missed this thread last time through...BUT my immediate reaction was that this was the top ventilator from a lantern........but the diameter seems a bit off, so.....................
    Yes, Manson's I had expected to see some kind of burner inside - air flow in through the holes at the bottom, combustion vapors out through the space at the top.
