Featured Old pottery no marks

Couple of older piece I can not identify. I

 

I'm not any kind of expert - the one on the right reminds me of Iznik tiles/pottery I've seen identified on this site/other sites.

Left vase looks like Delft

 

Iznik, middle eastern is a good shout for both I think

A pic of bases would help as well

 

not so sure they are vases,,, size would be nice to know......like , if we're going to be helpful here........

 

Lovely pieces, Twin. Both are antique Persian Qajar dynasty pottery.

For Middle Eastern representations of humans Persia is one of the first countries I think of, and this is classic Qajar. Although the colours are certainly reminiscent of Turkish Iznik ware. Iznik ware is more refined though, and usually has elongated tulips in a gently flowing curve somewhere in the design.

Qajar ware of this kind has a more folksy look, but a charm all its own.

The one with the portrait is a hookah base, for a waterpipe. This is what it would look like in situ:


These bases are often sold separately, no problem there.
The gentleman in the portrait is likely to be someone famous, probably a Qajar dynasty Shah.

The bird jug is also a classic Qajar theme. Birds are symbols of paradise.
It looks like it was used for oil, which has seeped through the ceramic and discoloured the underglaze painting.

Don't know if they will be able to sell it for that price, it seems ambitious to me.

Ah, local auction houses have very entertaining descriptions. A good read when you are bored with the truth.
