Carved polar bear help

    the bear is bone ...the stand may be tooth ivory.....
    Alaska.... no more that 30 years old...if that....

    Normally made from Ivory tusk...the red mouths are a give a way.....

    Of Alaskan origin or...? Are the ones in your pix walrus tusk?

    Ty, I thought the bear would be ivory since it's light colored and base bone because it's darker?

    We're identifying the bear based on the grain, not the color. These are elephant ivory examples, but you can get an idea of how widely it can vary between white to yellow by skimming through these:

    both Tricia's and mine are out of Alaska.
    the pics of mine are walrus tusk carvings...
    a little finer..& a little older than hers....but not by much....
