    White abalone, mostly found off California and the Mexican west coast. Very pretty.

    Sold at cash and carry shows for $3-5 each.
    New in the last 5-10 years from China.

    Or the Philippines. They ship these shells back and forth just because of cheap labour elsewhere.

    Never considered the Philippines.
    Most all of the stretch bracelets are thrown in tubs. You dig through and pick out what you like.
    Glass ones are often $2 ea or 3 for $5.
    Shell are just a tad bit more

    They are very good at anything to do with shells. Inlaid mop and shell as well:

    I have a beautiful Filippino walking stick with the same style mop inlay.

    They also carve 'Zuni' style fetish beads. A lot of hand made bead craft supplies in the US are made in the Philippines
