Think this may be the weirdest thing I have ever seen done by someone who clearly had technical skill:



Could actually be based on the wedding photo of someone.

She looks like the marriage between a Chef and an Orthodox Pope

 

It wasn't easy to get the nose to look that big. We had flapper cameos a few days ago. How many were nervously smoking in advance of their weddings?

 

I do not know what to make of this:


Apart from 'mouth teeth', I can't figure out what seller is seeing:

It seems to be a black lava cameo of a Trojan War hero. Description mentions a window on the back that lets light through the head. I see a shallow flake missing. Can't imagine it is translucent & seller doesn't show.

 

I rather like it, but the keywords are all over the map. Davey's is better, if not worth as much as a hardstone. The ugly bride might sell as just that; the really ugly ones do sell as curiosities.

 

"mouth teeth" may be my favorite, ever.

But this fine Trojan War hero does have the Madonna head-tilt down pat.

 

Oh, that Madonna. I was thinking she was Vogue-ing.(LOL)

 

Especially wanted to show @bluumz how the nose looks so big on the flapper bride:

I do like the appearance of filminess (is that a word, LOL?) the carver gave the veil.

 

It doesn't reach the very highest level of skill, but cutter was extremely good. The lady would have had to turn her head awfully far to her right for the shoulders to look like that.

That...is....shocking! Do you think the ‘artist’ sat back well pleased with his days work?!

 

This was in a box of dolls house furniture. Do you think she is celluloid?. Made in two parts. Again not the most attractive piece of work but I felt the need to rescue it!
Something very odd going on with helmet hair!

 

It sure looks like celluloid to me. How heavy/light does it feel?

 

I don't see a helmet, just a bad attempt at a diadem in an elaborate hairdo. Then a bad attempt at hair, another at the face. Back & shoulders aren't too bad.

I can't say exactly what the figure is made of of other than something man made. I think not Celluloid or something in that family; have never seen anything with those little bubble bumps, always quite smooth. Some sort of early resin.

Will probably say this many more time before I die, have said it many times before: I HATE BLACK STUFF! It's so hard to photograph & so hard to know from photos what's jet, bog oak, Vulcanite, gutta percha. The outer frame & back look from here like they could be jet. It's the black behind the figure I can't make out. Same stuff as the figure? Has a Vulcanite look to it.

I couldn't have tossed her either. She's not attractive or wearable; she is unusual & interesting as a study specimen for learning about different materials.
