I am not sure who the maker is as I cant find any marks on them. The dangles are crystal or glass? (Another thing I cant tell the difference between.) They are screw back and huge.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

    fab-u-lous!

My guess is crystal, but it's just a guess. Whichever they are, I'd wear them.

Great design, I'm sure they look fabulous on.
Crystal usually shows rainbow colours when it reflects light.

The screws on the leverbacks confuse me. Surely the lever goes back when you tighten the screws or am I missing something really ingenious?

Yeah they flip back like a clip on, then screw.

I've got screw clips like that, they adjust really well. Much less tricky than ordinary screw backs. I reckon those are 60s, maybe early 70s. Trifari did similar, but those are marked.

I agree -- 60s maybe early-70s. They do look like crystal or glass, but some bezel-set jewels like this were plastic/acrylic -- you've probably already ruled that out. If not, you can tell by tapping against your teeth, or seeing if there's a slight indentation on the flat surface when light reflects on them.

They strike me as being from the period when gypsy-ish jewellery was in fashion, but lots of women did not have pierced ears, so late 50s - late 60s. It might be possible to find out when this type of adjustable clip came out, if a more precise answer is needed. I would guess glass rather than crystal, in part because crystal is heavier & earrings need to be light.

There was a bit of a revival of that whole gypsy hippy dippy look here in the 70s - it seems to crop up every now and then. I think they're a bit too boho big to be of that 50s fashion.

My Mom had a pair similar, purchased in late '68-early '69 to go with a rather wonderful floaty yellow chiffon cocktail dress with beading on the bodice, she was tall and slender with a long neck, so they suited her (firm on the dating of hers, purchased for a Nixon Inaugural party).

Oh,I have my Ma's earrings and do they all dangle! She had a thing for those ones that had a single pearl, long chain and then a HUGE pearl. I found some still on cards after she died. I wear them.
