I found these a few weeks ago at a yard/estate sale - the tops look old & worn, but the oil containers inside them look like brand new - or they have been replaced. Also the lanterns/lamps themselves seem unusual to me compared to oil lamps/lanterns I usually see - are these anything special? Old or new?
Also, there is no makers mark anywhere - could they be hand made or some weekend potter's project?
    Thanks all!

They look like whale oil lamps.

These are recent vintage, so definitely not for whale oil.
