The design/construction of the opal ring puts me in mind of a ring I have:

Color change ring 1A.jpg Color change ring 1B.jpg Color change ring 1C.jpg

The center stone is a lab grown color change sapphire, so ring no earlier than the 1940s.

Please do what your heart tells you, but rings can be a bit of a hard sell and I think the offer could have been worse. (But I'm not an opal or diamond expert...)

I had purchased a group of drop dead fantastic rings a few decades back, paid to have them appraised by gemologist, all came in at over $2K appraisal per ring. Fantastic designs, three were 14K, two were 18K, gem stones and stunning settings. Former owner had money and wonderful taste, and rings were in a wearable size 7 1/2.

I could not move those on Ebay individually for $400. Started much higher, moved down to $400 fixed listing. Sat unsold for months.

Unlike a necklace, bracelet, or pin, with rings you are dealing with quarter sizes for a fit, and while you can resize a ring, there is a cost to the integrity of the piece, plus the $ cost of resizing.

So I think it was a somewhat fair offer, but like you said, if you don't need the money and still enjoy it, by all means keep it. Amazing it was in a scrap pile. It is a very pretty setting.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I have no thoughts on the ring itself, but my thought to sell/not sell is, "if not for financial reasons, why on earth would I sell something I love?"

I so want to learn your techniques. What does a four face nail buffer look like?

I know that! It's basically an oblong block. Different grades of buffer on each surface.

You can find them at most stores with the nail polish etc. They are fairly inexpensive & as OBB said above there are 4 different surfaces that go from coarse to smooth.

Hmmm. I'll have to find one on the net as I haven't seen anything like it in local stores.

I must have missed it, but I leave my nails natural and so I don't look too hard in the polish sections.

They're great for natural nails, they just add a bit of shine.
