Popped into the GW two days ago and just as I was leaving they were putting this clock out for $17.99, with tax let's just say $20.

I have sort of a mental check list when I decide to get something or not. Typically I try to shy away from items that are: Heavy, electronic, or broken and this clock was all three. But it was pretty cool looking, so grabbed it anyway on my way out, thinking I could always return it for credit if my impulse purchase was a mistake. I'm not sure what the metal is, but I think it weighs close to 8lbs. Also I can't begin to sort out just how broken this is or not.

Thrift has a 7 day return policy, so I guess I'm asking for opinions whether this should be a keeper or a return.

No question about age. And there are a many many clocks online by this maker, but couldn't find similar. It's beautiful in a way, but what do you think? Also any idea what metal plate on the face is about?

If I had a good spot for it, I'd probably hang on to it decoratively for a while. I'm wondering whether it potentially worth my time (say, over $100) in value as in the end it would be a resale item.

It's a keeper, running or not! Find a clock collector's forum & post the same pics. I think you'll be delighted in your treasure. Good luck!

BTW...where do you find 'electronic' in it?

Oops, meant "mechanical" not "electronic", lol. I think my brain combines electronic and mechanical into one mysterious universe.

Thanks for taking a look. Yes, I'd love to have clock collectors chime in, maybe a FB page with experts. Cheers.

This movement is similar to yours, but the devil is always in the details:

    https://tinyurl.com/j26s6uhw

For those who don't want to click, it's a sold auction listing on eBay: 32 bids, 5 bidders, $100 USD, 2022-12-21

Probably should hit up a robust clock forum to get some opinions with people who deal with these all of the time.

Funny, exactly hit my $100 or more mark to make it worth reselling. Guess I'm keeping it for resale or further research. (I know devil is in the details, could be this Ebay movement is more desirable, totally different...etc etc.) But taking it as a sign to keep it.

    Right.

I have a story about leaving a price tag on. There used to be a high end consignment store where I live (since closed) and I never really got on that well with the owner. She was kind of high strung and hard on her employees, chewing employees out for small things ("Don't put that there, put that THERE!!") yelling while customers were in the store, etc. Really bothered me. Otherwise it was a well put together store and they did a solid business. And occasionally I got a deal or two on thing they missed, so I wanted to maintain good standing both as buyer and seller.

But one time the owner's wrath turned to me. She had listed a consignment I brought in for way too low a price in my opinion, and I asked her about it. She pretty much lost it, nearly yelling at me how she was "better at knowing what things sell for" and maybe she was, but I really took offense at how she talked to me as a customer, and I called her out on it. So relations became frosty.

A few weeks after frosty-gate, I dropped off a set of three framed pictures, and guess what. I accidentally left a SAVERS tag on one.

She called me at home, and of course she had an excellent point, that they couldn't be selling things from thrift stores -- I think what she meant to say was that they couldn't be selling things with thrift store tags, since I often saw thrift pieces I'd seen in the thrifts for sale over there. I think she felt bad about frosty-gate, so she actually was just kind of calling with an FYI, "no items from thrift stores".

    Yes, remove the tag.

I beleive the $100 Ebay Sale price was only for the mechanism/movement-w/ the case it could be worth much more than that.I assume the housing is made of spelter ?
The GW 'Minder' must have been hungover that day.-normally they price their free donations at 10 times that price.

    Online valuations sites.

    But it does look nice.

The article posted by @Debora specifically says "low-cost clocks".
