Print with reversed signature

Hoping someone can ID this for me. it seems to have the one signature reversed and appears there are two others.
Can someone tell me what type of print also please.
I am showint the one signature that i took a picture using a mirrir so you can read the name But the other two I have no clue.

It does say Sunday 20th April '47. So not really a signature.

Since then EU regulations have ensured thet 'microhead disease' has been eliminated from the French cattle stock, and all beasts now have standardised heads and horns.

 

The wording on the lower right
translates to Artists proof.
Hmmm?

 

As af said the backwards writing is the date and being reversed would make it a stone lithograph. or a copy of said lithograph.

The only thing i have a problem with is the size of mine.
Although the paper looks correct and the prints are exactly the same mine is 12" x 16". others are 16X22 or 18X24.
I did find a small bookplate being sold also for a value of $300 i think.
Could proofs be made in various sizes?

It is a reproduction of the Picasso lithograph, not itself an original Picasso lithograph.

I figured it had to be but you just don't see many of this print so it must be pretty scarce. Even reproductions of a artist proof...

I don't know if the size is the same, but this person says the original print had a limited edition of 50.

yes i had read that and that there were about 6 proof's
Mine is on the same paper and the Epreu d Artiste does look to be in pencil. there are no tell tale dots like a reproduction would have so i am confused.

 

Yet there seem to be several posts on different sites about it... even about the Epreau d'Artiste -- that makes me a bit suspicious. I have no way of telling anything about yours as to authenticity, though. All of the posts I've seen (and you probably have seen them also) refer to the print somebody owns as if it is one of the first ones.

I think that is what you mean when you say you can't find mention of reproductions?

 

Yes fig, and the fact that the large print copy places on line like art net and others don't even have or offer this print in their stock.

 

You can pick any one painting from any famous artist and find hundreds of places on line where you can buy prints or posters of them, But for some reason not this one.

 

Did any of the sites provide the size of the image area as well as the paper size? I'm wondering if your copy was cut down from it's original size?

Often the paper border around the image in an original print is larger than it looks in your copy.

 

Also, the Christies page doesn't say whether the sizes given are the size of the frame, the paper, or the image.

It could be they're giving the frame size, which means your image size might be the same.
