    Hi all,

Got a bunch of interesting things from the thrift store today.

One of the more interesting items was this marble? lion. It is very heavy! Approximately 20 cm in length.

It looks oriental to me, but it is definitely not my area of speciality.

Any info will be appreciated! 20150604_194211.jpg 20150604_194223.jpg 20150604_194228.jpg

Hi Springfld. Thanks for the fast reply.

Sorry for the poor quality, it is very late this side.

Thanks. So it was white, then was painted over with black paint. Haven't seen that done too much. Wonder if that was done by maker or a former owner?

Paint on top of plaster maybe?

I wondered about the whiter marks...

I don't think it is plaster. It is too heavy and just feels like stone. Texture is slightly different from plaster...

Bottoms of the feet looks darker than the body as well...

    Hi,
To check for marble make a small scratch on the bottom of a foot be sure to get through the black part. Put a drop of white vinegar on the scratch and check with a loupe. If you see tiny bubbles it is either marble or marble dust mixed with resin. Be sure to wash off the vinegar.
