Biggest earrings on the planet, pearlised celluloid or similar. And an interesting little necklace. Cut faceted lead crystal I find a lot, but this has hand blown rigaree style beads. Both a quid each.

 

Bakesgma, lovely. I have to be on the lookout for tiles now. I learn so much here. Bear and Barnowl, great finds.

Got up lateish Saturday, but my hubby talked me into going to a flea market. Got there extremely late by any standards, 10:15 a.m., but the funny thing was people were just setting up to beat the fees (they are done checking people by 10 a.m.)

These were fiddy cents or less each
The circle brooch is Krementz, the rose bone brooch is marked silver on the back. The Mom brooch is rhodium and marcasites, and the rectangle brooch is pot metal, all stones present. Necklace on the bottom sterling. Spoon ring junky, but oh well. MOP on the mother brooch.


More fiddy cents each. The aurora borealis silvertone is Lisner.


Now we move to the dollar table items. Newer stuff, I thought I grabbed the Holly
Yashi necklace, nope. The blue pearlish earrings are Monet, no great shakes here.


More from the dollar table. The big rhinestone thing is a buckle, missing some stones. The pearls are genuine with a sterling clasp. The stones in the circular pendant test as quartz and blue topaz. The green necklace piece is soaking in white vinegar.

 

I always am hoping any glass bead necklace I find turns out to be rock crystal. I love how lead crystal beads catch the sunlight. I love the unusual beads in this.

 

This was also on the dollar table, sterling. I collect old religious medals and such,and love when I find sterling.

I went to my consignment store today, and found this Akribos skeleton watch for my brother. It was only two dollars, looks like it was never worn, I hope all it needs is a battery.


And I found a huge octopus knot of three sterling necklaces, $6 for the knot. It took about two hours, but I got it all apart. I am happy that this pendant turned out to be 10k with diamonds on a sterling chain. The quality is just not there in newer jewelry...at the top and bottom on the heart is metal made to look like diamonds.


From the church sale last week. Incolay jewelry box is very good condition. Sat there until 12:30 p.m. until I picked it up to buy it then a crowd of people suddenly wanted it. $5.

 

I love the Japanese necklace.

 

The watch is self winding/automatic,no battery required.

 

Thanks, Hollyblue. Does it wind when you wear it or just by itself? It is not working then. But when I carried it outside to photograph it, the back mechanisms moved. I just googled.... seems you have to wear it and you can't overwind one. I will wear it tomorrow to experiment.

My only find this weekend was a BH and Gardens Cook Book from 1965. I am ok with that.

When I go to a sale and they quote eboo prices or have a print out, I get a sourpuss look on my face and move on.

 

I hate when they take their phones out and start looking up ebay prices in front of you when you ask how much.

 

I really think I would have to tell them not to bother going to all that trouble on my account, because quite frankly they could keep the item.

I don't go to many estate sales or garage sales because I tend to get so much stuff at the auction. However whenever I would walk up to a table & see that nothing was priced I would just turn to walk away.

 

In many ways this is why I rather like my regular house clearance boys.They know I'll pay fair, and they don't pull that silly thing of it being such and such a price on Ebay.

 

I have a nearly identical bracelet that matches it, so I hope someone will want them as a set.

 

Once I was set up at an antique show next to a dealer who had nothing priced. When anyone picked up an item he would bark out a price. It didn't take long for me to realize his prices changed based on what the person looked like. If they were well dressed and had expensive jewelry the prices got higher.

It also didn't take long for me to wish I was set up somewhere else. His constantly barking out prices got old really fast

 

I have had a similar experience Marie but not at a show. Sometimes at yard sales, they shout out a price every time you look at something or touch it. And sometimes they explain what it is. I just say thank you but I honestly like to shop in peace and would prefer to ask questions when I need to.

 

That's why I'm kind of glad that I dress averagely and look like (well, am) a student. I get reasonable prices (from reasonable sellers), people assume I know shit about jewelry/antiques (occasionally true), and I can haggle without people judging me for it.

On the downside, it also means that I get vendors edging closer to me as I am examining their jewelry, or staring me down like they think I'm going to steal something. It probably doesn't help that I'm a man.

 

It can get really annoying when people explain what something is, when it's pretty clear what something is. Like, yes, I know what a pocket watch chain is.

 

Barn Owl, I dress down (look like a hobo at this point) when I go to sales. I wear tattered jeans, sneakers (or uggs if it is winter) and don't wear flashy jewelry.

I know they size us up, so I go with the distressed look as it is also more comfortable. I also wear my estate sale outfit because many times I walk into a dirty house that has had no cleaning for years and the person is long gone. And it is a mess on many levels.

I had to laugh this past summer. There was a woman at a sale who was wearing the shortest skirt known to woman or man, thigh high black boots and had a Betty Paige kind of hairdo. We were waiting to go into a filthy home that was going to be torn down as soon as the sale was over as it just disgusting and so dirty. A hoarder, slob house for sure. I have seen her only once since and she dresses that way at every sale it seems. Wearing her chic clothes to go to an estate sale is the fastest way to pay more and to get the clothes wrecked. Plus she can not bend over without ... well you can take it from there.

 

I generally don't wear anything good to tag sales etc. A silver ring here and there maybe, but not much more. I do however put on makeup and in warm weather the closest I get to a low-cut shirt. (which isn't very) Some sellers don't care, but that 2005 with the unpainted cover on my side view mirror doesn't hurt.

The ones that make me crazy are the people at estate sales who won't negotiate, and then price anything I want at twice what it ought to be because it's me.

 

I go out showered but sloppy....it is too hot, humid, and buggy here in the summer. I won't go into some homes that smell...pets, mold, smoke, dirty....just no. Many people have moldy odor stuff here, I just can't. I also love when a seller says they have to get a certain price because it was my mom's, dad's, etc. And I hate hate hate when I am looking at something to be talked to death by an overly eager seller. Leave me alone!!!
