Featured Barkcloth Identification (Tapa, Kapa, or?)

I would be grateful for any assistance in identifying this Barkcloth. It is approx. 48" X 64". I performed the moist Q-tip test and find that the dye used to make the design is not completely colorfast (minimal color appears on the Q-tip after the test). Because of what I know of its history, I believe the cloth likely to have been made in Hawaii, probably before c1930. Thanks!

Welcome, R. Wade. It is beautiful, with wonderful detail.
I can see how you would think Hawaiian kapa, with the geometrical designs, but it looks more like a Samoan siapo (tapa) to me. I could be wrong.
Samoan siapos are much more Taupou's field of interest, so let's wait for a no doubt thorough explanation.

 

Could you tell us some more about its history? It always helps to know more about an item.
