I never heard of him either and we don't live far from wear his studio is located. Had a feeling the piece might be a good one, but since our experience in glassware/art glass is next to none, we weren't sure....so this might be a keeper. It appears to be one of his early works (signed & dated, 1982) and from what I read so far, he is no longer producing works in glass,...he stopped doing so in the early-1990s.

Also, thanks for always having faith in my potential as a picker for these past couple of years of us knowing each other on these antiques forums.....very much appreciated! You, I, we, have seen and experienced both the positive and negative these boards can bring out of folks. Hopefully, with my consistent postings (half the time not even knowing what I have) week after week within these Finds Threads for the past four or five years have inspired some. Inspired folks just to challenge themselves at becoming better in a particular field in which they had no prior interest. Hell! I know if I can do it, anyone can....it's not that hard! Just try...

Anyway, below are two of the pieces by this artist I like the most so far:

nuff, this thread and the best finish thread are my favourites as they open my eyes to other things that I maybe wouldn't look at. Case in point - I was at a sale and saw two giraffes by Abraham Palatnik. I would never have looked twice at them if I didn't know who made them, and I only knew them from seeing his pieces on this thread. So yes, all the great items on this thread certainly inspires me and I'm sure others to keep looking and also know what to look for. My eyes are always on the lookout to find one of those Yixing teapots

Yes, I recall his (Palatnik) work from someone posting a penguin made by him over on the eBay Antiques Board.

This thread (Finds) on that site and this site have always been my favorite as well. From Terry posting four-figure vacuum tubes to many of the girls and their vintage jewelry finds have all inspired me to lookout for these items, items I would have never thought twice about.

I believe as you know, I knew almost NOTHING when it came to porcelain and pottery (especially Asian) prior to the end of 2011, but was inspired by two board members over on the other site who kept posting their Asian finds/threads. Not only that, but the market had shifted towards Asian works of art and I knew somehow we had to find our way into this market because that's where the "big" money was/is. Hell, I recall most of the regular board members over on the other site calling for a separate board for Asian items as there was no interest by many of them and folks started flooding the boards with inquiries after being inspired by sales/finishes in the four and five-figures. Now these inquiries (Asian items) have become the norm. It's funny how things change . I recall Wendy helping me ID one of the first pieces of porcelain I found and posted (a mid-19th, Nymphenburg piece) and another member helping me ID a very rare late-18th C. Staffordshire piece I paid a $1 for not too long after the Nymphenburg find.

I'm slowly trying to train my eye towards picking glass items and vintage jewelry just as I did with pottery & porcelain and so far, with much success.....thank goodness! Still haven't gotten the fear out of me regarding picking vintage and antique furniture (never done well in that area), but that's one of my next fears to knockdown/overcome.

 

Early-20th C. American portrait drawing, 19th C. French confit piece a board member helped ID (thanks so much, Lauragarnet) and a large figural costume jewelry brooch.

I emailed the artist/designer early this morning and kindly asked if he could please confirm our thoughts and research. He replied and did confirm it's one of his earlier works (when he was 23 yrs old) that lead up to the design below 6 years later. This piece will not be put up for re-sale and will be going into our private collection.

I have to admit to loving all the glass pieces. This weekend was kind of a bust. Found one or two things, but nothing worth crowing over. What I did find was zero notifications from the board for anything at all.(sigh)
