Calling it a snipe is just fine with me .....a friendly snipe at that !

 

A few things for your edimification.....

Early 19th C Wedgwood jasper jar with EPNS fitments, the deeper colour is rarer. A nice pair of Bohemian spatter glass jugs with celery handles. Willow pattern drainer - again, probably early 19th. And a rather nice pewter and enamel Japanese box.

 

I especially like the enamel and pewter box.

Those Jugs might be Welz. Let me see what I can find out. Can I borrow your picture to post to another board?

I think the box is charming, too. The fellow on the top might be silver and the base has a very nice crocodile skin pattern.

I posted it to the Welz Facebook page. I'll let you know if I can get a positive ID.

 

Ownedbybear, the cobalt blue jasperware is my favorite. And the glass you posted, and the box. All beautiful.

 

Few things to show. These are thrift store or free from the trash finds.

This African figure was $2.00. It wouldn't stand very well on its own so I made the base for it.


This 7" Bronze censer was $3.00. Seems to be a copy of an early Chinese form.



Avco china casserole was $2.00.


This 16 x 20 oil on board was in the trash. Artist is Ida Roux and appears to be amateur. The older than the painting frame is broken. There was a larger less accomplished one by the same artist that had a big rip in the canvas and also had a broken frame so I did not take it.

Kay Finch Bunny and Adirondack style frame were also in the trash. The frame is missing one corner extension. The Bunny is perfect.


This is an 8 x 10 pen and ink drawing signed L. J. Williams. I at first thought it was a block print but on close examination can see the pen strokes indented in the paper. It was 55 cents with a frame included.


This old 14 x 9 framed print looks familiar but I have not been able to identify it so far. Was 50 cents.



This is a reproduction but nicely framed and matted. Couldn't say no for $4.00.


This week must have been artwork week. I also bought the Western pulp fiction illustration painting I posted in the general section for some help on (hint hint). Had to pay a whole $10.00 for it.

This spice shelf was $1.00 and the Platter was $2.50. It is an 80s release of the Manhattan depression glass inspired pattern by Anchor Hocking dubbed Park Avenue.

Although I have never solidly linked this spatter to Welz at this point, I would likely lean that way. The decor appears to have the look of torn pieces of color that I see in a variety of their color combinations. I would have to see the color combination on several shapes to confirm it is Welz. Also, the style of handle is a little different than I am used to seeing. Interesting pair... How tall are they?

 

Brad, your print is "Isabella or The Pot of Basil".
It's by William Holman Hunt.

 

Thanks! I knew I had seen it before and the Pot of Basil rings some bells now. I kept searching for a woman gazing into a fish bowl

 

The print is not Hunt's Isabella and the Pot of Basil but, rather, John White Alexander's version.

A few more things to show here. I went to the Bloomington, IL 3rd Sunday market a couple weeks ago. Bought very little despite having money to spend. The stuff was mostly run-of-the-mill or priced too high to make a profit on. The dealers I talked to were complaining about sales and it seemed that the people I saw were buying rusty junk for the yard and popcorn. I think the kettle Corn guy was the only one having a good sale day.

I did buy this interesting pair of MCM pottery lamps. No idea who made them. I took one apart but there were no marks. I will probably post in the PGP thread as well. $25.00 for the pair.


This little table has quite a bit of age to it. The pic is after I painted it. It was covered in brown oil-cloth. I just painted it blue for the effect of age it gave. Worked out better than I thought. The center of the legs are held together with a wooden bead that I thought was an interesting accent. I painted it the same blue as the top. Bought for $12.00.


I bought this little Mata Ortiz pot from a fellow dealer in my mall. Paid $6.00 for it.

 

Brad, I love the print of the woman! Bear, love your glassware! Nuff, I have to now research that style of watch. I have a few finds, but I have so much trouble with my Samsung 4, miss my Samsung 3. Hubby has to fix the email/picture stuff yet again!!! I slept very late Saturday because I had a retirement dinner to go to and I had to give a speech, dread public speaking. I missed a huge yard sale with tons of old stuff that was two blocks from me. Sigh. There is always tomorrow!

I hate public speaking also. It was so rough giving lectures several times a month and forgot about the three months I had to teach a course to 30 students
I feel your pain. Just wanted to say after a few minutes it becomes a little easier.

I found these cool coffee pots - Range-Tec with coloured stripes vacuum brewer and a McKee stove top percolator
