    I guess I could photograph the "shoulder" area where it flares from a cylindrical shape. I see no scratches there but there wouldn't be if there was a fitting supported by the rough upper edge, said fitting not actually
    reaching all the way to the "shoulder".
    Thinking about that now, if this was a stopper, there might be scratches on the shoulder as it sat down inside its receptacle, unless of course the receiving vessel had a fitting that prevented full entry of the cylindrical neck. Hmmm - I think this point might be a "wash".

    If it had a silver rim, I'd expect to see the roughness extend slightly down the neck bit. These sat sort of in the base: I've Caithness ones that do similar, but they're fire polished.

    Back in the 1950's and 1960's there were some big decorative decanters. This looks like a mod design from the 1960's, but I could be wrong. I think it is a stopper to a decanter.
