Featured Wash stand help

Hello All, I have this wash stand which was inherited some years ago from my wife's parents who inherited it from the great grand parents. There are no mfg. markings on it. It has a marble top and back splash. Anyone have any idea how old it might be and what the value is? It is in very good condition. Thanks!

Nice walnut and marble wash stand ca. 1880. Sadly undervalued here in the midwestern U.S.; around $150 at auction.

 

Would make a great place to roll out dough so it stays cold.

 

Well I'm in Californee so maybe I could get $160, everything here is more expense! No we're keeping it.

Back in the 1960s it was common for these to be made into a wash basin in bathrooms. A cut out was made to fit a porcelain sink. I saw at least three remade in Philadelphia and dozens made in NYC.

Beautiful piece. I remember at my grandmothers place she would put a pan of hot water on the washstand for everyone to freshen up in the morning. Yes I know, gross washin up in the same water lol but just hands n face haha

 

If it is as old as some believe, you also would need doors around the bottom shelf to "hide" a "chamber pot" on the bottom shelf.

The chamber pot was always in a commode chest near the bed. The wash stand was always a separate piece at least here in the states.

Davey's right, I hadn't notice the screws at the rear holding the back splash together, they are zinc plated. My father in-law was a pretty handy guy I'm sure he replaced them at some point. I found out my wife's parents acquired this around 1971.
