I did try to research this found exactly one listed as a hood ornament, automobile mascot radiator cap... HAHAHA.. is it any of those? It does have a mark on it but darned if I can read it, looks kinda like a British registry mark.
It is 6" tall. Thanks for taking a look! cherub.jpg

He's not designed to be seen from the back, can't imagine him perched on a car where the occupants would have to see him from that side. Looks like there's a screw hole where his tailbone should be? Are there others?

    Clock decoration?

The winged wheel suggests time flying, etc.

Yes there is a hole in the top of his head and one just above the wheel on his lower back. Thanks for the thought I will look into that!!

I’m not an expert but I’m inclined to think that not a lot of these ended up mounted on vehicles. I think a “hood ornament” title here is good business but may be historically not entirely accurate.

Again, this is just an opinion of a novice who isn’t “studied” on the matter but somewhat familiar with old automobiles is the USA.

upload_2019-5-3_3-1-42.jpeg There's a feint foundary stampe on the back of cherub. Can be seen in early Sotheby's cataloge with an estimated reserve of £1000-1200.

mine definitely has a mark on the back also. I do see how it might not be a hood ornament as the back is not pleasing to look at and wouldn't it be facing front? Not really sure how to list it!

in the olden days those figures were a MUST for the posh; we tend to forget that nobody had a car like today, was reserved for the filthy rich. there were even glass ones made by Daum and others.
P.S. when you knew there's the risk of a police control you could turn it "arse-ahead"...

Mom had a Rolls R (actually 2 at different times).....but she took the Spirit of Ecstasy and had it cast in Sterling Silver.....which I am the lucky recipient of!!!!:singing::singing::singing::singing::singing::singing::singing::singing::singing:.....and I'll be back later!!!

Doesn't look like a foundry mark to me. Looks like a design registration mark.

I don’t know enough about Registration marks, but IF they are required only for item SOLD and not made, can this be from another country?

I do think it may be a registry mark as I said in my OP. I can only make out the I at the top which means metal.

British registration marks are for when the design was registered:)

just noticed that is says the diamond mark was 'dropped' in 1884 and just the Registered number was used after that, so this would be 1884 or earlier
