You nailed it. I don't feel like registering with them to get the results; hope to goodness the lot was passed up. Surely faker could have found something a little more convincing. Well, it was convincing enough for the auction house, & they specialize in antiquities. Think I may have tried to disabuse them, only to be told modern cameos/intaglios copy ancient ones. Stupidity squared.

Maybe she hitched a rid on the Tardis and is genuinely that old...now?

A better explanation than the auctioneer's.

What is she holding? It looks like a sad or frowning emoji. :(

Bigfoot is a good example for me to ask: why are there parts that look like brushstrokes in varnish?

Wow -- it looks nothing like that -- at least not in the photo you posted.

I have a feeling the cutter did the feet first, then found he couldn't do the rest of her on the same scale & still fit her into the oval he had to work with. That, or the other way around: he did the body, then found he had a lot of space to fill at the bottom.

Mostly lighting artifacts. A combination of glare & light catching in some irregularities in the shell surface. Can't tell in this photo whether the fine lines running parallel to her body are hairline cracks or chisel grooves.

That was the best photo seller provided. You have to admit she looks something like the original. I have seen ones where the sundial has been changed to a clock face. Most of the time it looks like a drum.

I showed this one in another thread a little while back:

The great thing is, it's a watch pin.

Looking at her more closely, "Bigfoot" is also "Giant Claw Hand." :p

He merged her fingers with the base of the sundial. If a cameo includes them, hands & feet are something to look at. Difficult to do, so, if well done, usually the entire piece will be excellent.

When I saw the thumbnail of this, I thought I was looking at the top of an Incolay box. Other photos quickly showed me I was wrong on that count.

Seller hedges by titling it Antique Vintage. What do you think after seeing the back?

    1) (whine) why not bother to clean it before taking such nice pictures? 2) the font/graphic styling of the mark on the back... I would be really surprised if it were "antique."
