Can anyone tell if this is a old map or a modern map? It came out of a nice home at a estate sale today.
    Thanks!

The color of the borders don't seem the same. Yours look red and the original is yellow.

They would have been hand-colored which could explain a discrepancy.

OK The original has a medallion in the upper left hand corner map that the OP's does not have. There are also missing details such as the four trees in the green circle near Nun Eaton

Given the indifferent photography and the many editions of Speed maps over the years, and the hand painting which was quite often done on genuine uncoloured maps centuries later to enhance value, I think it is impossible to say one way or the other on the evidence provided. Original maps are not all that rare or hugely valuable and there are of course, modern reproductions for the decor market.

If it is printed on laid paper and there is evidence of a join down the middle this would support the 'genuine' vote. It would be easier to authenticate out of the frame. Some editions had book text on the back of the map pages.

If not, I think yours has the same colors and the same frame, which makes it more probable that its a later edition and not hand colored. Maybe its a lithography.

As @afantiques has already stated please check if its printed on laid paper. If it isn't its after 1870, could well be 1950s or even later
If it is on laid paper, please check if you can see or feel the impression of the plate, that would be another indication of a possible original.

These were wildly fashionable reprints in the 1970s.
