Hi recently purchased this bracelet off eBay and stupidly didn't research it beforehand. Can anybody tell from these images and information if it is real or not?

The reason I have doubts is because I cannot find any similar ones online. All the ones online have either a Ring or Heart where mine is a curb link. The ones online also have a round bar not a square bar. The cloth bag it came in has a label on the inside that states " Pouch > Made in Thailand"

All the hallmarks are on the back of the square bar and are as follows:

•unidentified hallmark (Diamond shape box )

•"925" in between two scale symbols (rectangle)

    •"18" (no box)

•star symbol followed by "503 FI"
    (rectangle)

    •"925" (oblong)

The "503 FI" relates to a Nutini Piero of Florence. Who has produced products for Gucci in the past.

    What do you think?

    Many Thanks Cervorn

I'd be slightly suspicious of it too. Did you look at the seller's sold listings? I usually do that before bidding on antique silver items that I think might be fake; if they have a lot of the same antique items, with little/no variation between them, then they may be faked.

Also a question, was the sold price exceptionally good for a real piece?

Only asking, not like something couldn't slip through the cracks, but people who know what is what on Ebay search Gucci and if they passed on that piece, I would view as kind of a red flag.

If it sold high with several bids, not a guarantee it is the real deal, but maybe a better sign.

The stamp is very clear, which is normally a good sign. I'd not be worried about the pouch being made elsewhere.

Can you/would you post a link to the eBay listing?

I looked up the piece - and a seller with an extraordinarily similar piece. Looking particularly at negative posts. I believe your advice to the purchaser is sound, indeed.

Well, the GUCCI handbag she sold is almost certainly counterfeit. And I'd wonder why someone would sell a designer jewelry item in Sterling silver for $45 (or whatever the current exchange rate is) when it has a retail value of $150+.

eBay generally "ages" such material, so linking to any recent problem may give you an error message. Look on that site for "fairly similar items" and note that very few people incorrectly use the word "fake" even if they are only 1% of the ratings - you are unusual in questioning a "bargain."

Retail doesn't equate to second hand value though. I've bought all sorts of modern stuff for far less.

Yes, of course, but... I suspect someone in search of a piece of Sterling silver GUCCI jewelry that retailed for $170 would likely be happy with a much smaller savings than $125.

I've seen stuff sell at reputable auctions, the genuine article, for a quarter of retail. Likewise Ebay UK. I think it's partly the stupid mark ups, and partly we're cheapskates here.

Since the bracelet was listed as an auction, this new seller may have hoped that it would go higher. Plenty of people start their auctions at .99. It is a bit risky for some items in this day and age. It exceeded meltdown value in any case.

As for the purse can't comment on authenticity, but the seller received positive FB for the purse.

I would say the jury is still out unless there is something specific about this piece being fake based on looks, etc.

It feels real to me and seems very good quality. I just dont want to leave it too late to be eligable for a refund but I also dont want to send it back if it is a real bargain,ie the reason I am unable ind it online is that it is rare.

Do you have a Gucci store nearby? Maybe they can authenticate.

I am now old - but the professional dealers I have known do not like to start any auction there under about 75% of "fair." And they always accept returns of the original item (substituting a fake will not be tolerated - and people have tried that. eBay also allows a "formal reserve price" as well.

I also fear I wonder how (in at least one seller's case) the seller says that the seller made the item, and could still call it "real" because it has "real silver" in it, and the like. https://www.pymnts.com/news/2015/ebay-paypal-face-trademark-infringement-lawsuit/

    https://wwd.com/business-news/legal/chanel-is-suing-the-realreal-1202911368/
Lawyers for The RealReal cited an earlier case between Tiffany & Co. and eBay, where the courts found that a seller can use another company’s trademark if it’s necessary to describe the products, as long as it does not imply a false affiliation with the original company.

This is not a new problem, but it is an ongoing one.

If the item is real, great. But if the seller is overseas and comes up with lots of "real silver" goods, the odds are that returns are not accepted. So paying based on "over melt" may be safe enough, but that is about it.

I requested a return and they accepted straight away, no arguing or questioning. Would a Gucci store authenticate it for me and would they charge? What happens if its fake?

If you have one close by, you can ask. I don’t know for sure. If it’s close, would be worth finding out. You can call and ask if they would and if any fee.
