Looks like a turn of the century golden oak table that has been poorly treated! Lots of them were made Im sure.

"Poorly treated?" Looks like it was owned by Cinderella's stepmother!

I think it might be 1830s ish English. I also think it's worth having some work done. The structure looks ok, it's a finishing job.

Looking at the top back there appears to be holes where something was attached.
The drawer front appears to have had an attempt at staining with a rag.

Once a beauty and could be again. Nothing a can of stripper and 1000 hours of careful scraping can't fix. :meh:

Yes there is holes in the back maybe for a mirror? I didn’t get anything that would fit with it

These sometimes had a metal or wooden rail - that's the reference to a gallery.

I'd have been thinking mirror too, but gallery would be more in keeping with an 1830s date. The mirror would hang on the wall above.

Mm, the more I look, the more I think it had a metal gallery - a very simple brass one.

    Hang on.

This is a table with a metal gallery:

However, I think yours may have had a far simpler on, perhaps just a metal rod on legs, if that makes sense.

A gallery rail usually extends, at least partially, to the sides. Wonder if it might have had just a back-splash. Like this.

    Or more elaborate....

Those holes don't look to be the kind you'd affix a back splash to - and I'd have also expected the wood to show some evidence of its presence. I realise that top is in poor condition, but there's no darkening or whatever at all.
