Full of optimism, after having my mysteries solved in a perfect way from you guys yesterday, i am trying again with a few items. The first one is a Heishi tube turquoise necklace, that i would appreciate your opinion on. After my mistake yesterday, calling a chinese ring for Mexican, i will not do the same mistake again, but can anyone tell me where it may come from? Is it American (or maybe Mexico again?) I know that this could be anything, really, but i do like the marks on each side of the lock, but i have no clue what it is- and there is no other hallmarks present. Anyone here that can help? 2019-04-27 09.51.27-1.jpg 2019-04-27 09.51.56.jpg 2019-04-27 09.54.11.jpg 2019-04-27 09.57.47.jpg 2019-04-27 09.52.30-1.jpg 2019-04-27 09.51.27-1.jpg 2019-04-27 09.51.56.jpg 2019-04-27 09.54.11.jpg 2019-04-27 09.57.47.jpg 2019-04-27 09.52.30-1.jpg

The end cap markings are very similar to those from Mexico and I believe the long tubes in the necklace are referred to as "liquid silver".

I believe this necklace....which is Southwest Style..at best...is called Liquid Silver.
I hate them as they are almost impossible to polish.

    this is Heishi......

hand crafted this marvelous necklace out of Turquoise, Shell, Jet, and Pipestone. Traditionally made by hand cutting, drilling, rolling, and stringing....

    Hi, @Torkel Oftedal

@Sandra is right, heishi beads are made of stone - i sold a number of these as liquid silver. Some came from New Mexico.

I think those symbols are decorative, just not sure they are a mark.

He he- there you see, i mixed it again!!! I must admit that sometimes it is very frustrating to be a newcomber in this field; if i did not feel like an idiot before, i really feel it when i am trying to figure out the origins (and sometimes style) of something that i really have no clue about! But then i ask you guys, and do my best to learn as much as i can- but do not get any illusions, i have a long list of items that I need help with... :) And i must again confess how greatful i am to have found you here! :)

They're contemporary - I remember one site made it clear they are "not heishi, trade, Native American or antique," their words, not mine!

But the point is, you cannot list them as Native American, specifically. They are Southwestern. :)

One big manufacturer is Carolyn Pollack...

If I took the word of all the sellers out there, I'd be making the same mistakes they're making.

Obviously, a lot of people do think they are some or all those things, that's why some thoughtful person felt it should be clarified - I just passed it on to you!

Don't be so hard on yourself!

The turquoise-colored beads look like glass "bugle" beads to me.

It could be 'block turquoise', a confusing term which is used for both reconstituted turquoise and completely synthetic turquoise coloured 'stone'. Block turquoise is literally manufactured into a block from which beads and pendants are made. Because of the synthetic material in both types, it is less fragile than natural untreated turquoise and easier to make into beads.

This is reconstituted block turquoise. Needless to say, the black veins are not natural:
