I'm trying to determine if this bowl is sterling or plated. There is a 5 point crown, a head facing right and a G. Thank you!

There's nothing about these marks that matches any system for identifying solid silver that I know of. Many makers of silverplated items use fancy looking symbols to impress the buyer into thinking the items are better than they actually are. I even tried finding these marks in the "unknown" or "Unidentified" sections of silverplate marks sites, without success. So I can't even say whether the item is plated. Sorry.

The bottom gives it away as silverplate,if nothing else does.

Looking down into the bowl, you can see the silver plate starting to peel at 2 o'clock.

I don't think the bottom does as much as the blistering, peeling plate inside the bowl

Of course, that blistering means the bowl was plated with something. Is it blistering silver? I really can't say from what's marked on the bottom.
