    Poverty. Lack of retirement.

As was said above, constantly scanning movies for incorrect props, etc. It IS super rewarding to find movies that have great continuity in historical artifacts and props; it creates a whole other level of love for them.

I can make time to go looking for vintage stuff at estate sales, garage sales etc, but can not get myself to make time to go to the local mall when I need something there. And to think when I was a teen, the mall was the be all end all of my Saturdays.

I sometimes find myself surprised at how "sparkly" things look in a normal retail setting. I get so used to seeing old/used common items in thrifts that I forget sometimes what new looks like:)

I'm continually surprised at the poor quality of new retail items compared with vintage. So much is what I call ersatz. Looks like the real thing but on closer examination...

I have more clothes than space to put them, but only paid retail on maybe 10% of it other than shoes and underwear. (I wear 11s and you can't get those in stores.) I have more jewelry than some local jewelry stores and don't pay above melt for any of it. Then again these days I can't afford to pay retail anyway - another side effect. (LOL)

I don't pay retail in grocery stores either! Double coupons and saving sites are where it's at.

The six year old has the best eye and the biggest mouth!. Fortunately she’s also bright enough to learn quickly. Oldest is 9 and naturally a bit more covert.
Said 6yo did find a very nice 9ct gold chain and a silver ring in the children’s toy jewellery tub so they do have their uses:hilarious:

My last painting's just started look like a porcelain ornament, looking at all these bowls, vases, sculptures, it all influenced my workshop. I'm not interested in modern things anymore. Yesterday in my local chinese restaurant, i look closer at their huge jardiniere ). And of course, my family is getting bored when the third day in a row i try to talk to them about this interesting ginger jar with storks )))

I rarely show my husband my latest finds, although he does admire good crafts(wo)manship. He often thinks I've had something for ages anyway. Given the money that goes into so many bargains, I just leave it that way...:hilarious:
He knows that everything I buy is a bargain and a good investment. Well, just about everything.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I spend an untold amount of time doing genealogical research on people mentioned here for some reason or another. Because I like it. Usually, I just delete these "temp trees" off ancestry.com, but so few people are looking at a recent family I did (and those that are have so much stuff wrong), that I'm leaving it and will likely work it further.

And then some day, years from now, I'll find myself wondering how I'm related to these people. :woot:

Chalk that up to halogen lighting in retail & low wattage whatevers in thrift.

My unintended side effect is that I now judge places to visit on wether or not there are antiques shops or antiques fairs and markets there.

Just this Saturday, I made my son turn at a corner with a little "Antiques" sign pointing into what appeared to be a residential neighborhood in the town where he has been living part-time with his girlfriend (and where he took me for a look around to convince me I should also consider moving there.) Not 24 hours out of the hospital and still with a painful incision - but the antiquer in me could not pass that sign by! Spent about half an hour poking around in a charming little shop on the first floor of a home. Delightful owner, some really cool things and I even spent the only $10 in my purse! :hilarious:
