Found recenltly this painting for sale and bought it, it has no signature but it looks like it was done by a good artist hand.

It shows a medieval scene with the London, St Paul Cathedral when it still had a pointed roof. St Paul was burned down in 1666 and the roof collapsed and it has now a Dome roof top.

I guess it was painted in the 1800s because of the used paper. Does somebody regonise the hand or point me out who the artist could be.

Post more info & pics.If it's an original Illustration it's quite well done.It looks like pen/pencil,watercolor/gouache.CLOSE-UPS & very carefully remove it from the matboard-there may be a signature underneath.
Is that a pin hole in the top center?
Someone here should be able to use Google Lens to ID it.

I'd say it's in the style of Anton Pieck.

I have posted more pics. Yes its watercolor pencil. I removed it already from the mat but no signature underneath their. Yes it has a pinhole, so guess it was hanged at some period. I alr3ady tried google image. No luck.

But yes its very well done. Looks like a trained hand, thats why i thought its worth researching

Search Terms-'Anton Pieck Watercolors'. Glad they didn't nail it thru the center with a railroad spike !
PS-You also might Email Anton Pieck Museum at the Achterstraat in Hattem.
PSS-Little dots on the back are called 'foxing',mold, spores.

I researched and compared the wateecolors by anton pieck, dont think it is by him, they dont match the style and how the faces are painted, think its by a different hand.

I’m not sure it’s old St Paul’s. See the front and the spire from pics attached. The peoples clothes don’t look English, maybe German or Belgian.

To me it looks somewhat middle eastern, something from a day scene in "Arabian Nights."

It looks like it wants to be Medieval, or a book illustration of a Medieval scene. Covers of YA books sometimes had originals like this done, and copies were pasted to the covers. If that's what this is, it may not be signed.

The woman on the left with the beefy arms looks rather like something from a Hans Christian Andersen tale. Also there’s a drinking horn in the monks hand next to her, just doesn’t look like an English scene.

I think the gate would determine if it was London or not. According to the internet, these were the locations of London's Medieval gates. It doesn't appear that was one in close proximity to St. Paul's.

I agree, it could be inspired by Anton Pieck's style, but not by him.

Such an interesting piece! Total sidebar- but if anyone has watched Time Team, the guy with the sack on his back is totally wearing Phil Harding's signature denim hot pants :hilarious:

This may be meant to represent a location in a fairy tale, so wouldn't need to match any real life city area.

Agree that it's likely an imaginary location.
