Featured Ladies older hat

    any ideas on the age of this hat? I believe it's straw..

    Looks 1960s to me, maybe not later than 1967.

    Agree. The 1964 Sears catalog described that shaped hat as a "cloche" and this tear sheet shows how it was worn. (Of course, cloches were first popular in the 1920s.)

    Straw and, at that date, likely would have been made in Italy and trimmed in the U.S.

    Photos can be deceptive, but it does not look like straw. The weaving elements look too wide, and straw is smooth, not ribbed. It also looks too shiny and synthetic.

    You're right, of course. I should have written "woven." Would have been raffia. Lots from Italy at that time.
