DID I FIND A PICASSO PENCIL SIGNED PENCIL SKETCH?

My thrift store find today!

1) It looks like a Picasso signature to me
2) There is no pixels when I look at it with a magnifying glass
3) The back of the frame has the framer's stamp with a phone number but no area code, making me believe this is older & before lithos that wouldn't have pixels if just a print
4) The way it's framed with the extra space on the side - maybe for a coa?

Any help would be appreciated.

 

Looks more like a Dali in Siggie and subject. Not saying it is though.

 

I think you mean Dali.

Florida has had a ton of issues with fraudulent Dali prints. I first knew of the issues in the 1980s.

Doesn't mean it isn't worth checking out.

Any idea of age with the back stamp - and were they making the counterfeits back then?

 

I saw 10 different examples of his signature - not saying it is; but he didn't have 1 style signature did he?

 

This one is supposed to be genuine but they did differ a lot.
Your picture is called Soft Telephone 1968. I haven't been able to copy it, sorry.

i don't think you'll find anything there that would authenticate it....

 

I'm curious what's under the mat. The framing makes no sense unless the other part needed to be preserved but not shown. Maybe it's a preliminary sketch.

 

Ta, go ahead and take it out....the mat is full of acid anyways...
if there's something else there ...it's being soaked in acid all over..!

 

I saw my first "Dali" and "Picasso" prints during an exhibition that was presented over a few days at my university art center. The prints cost from $10-$30-up in mid-1970s. I could not afford to buy one.

I have no idea if they were "real" or not?

 

Dali was also known for selling Blanco sheets with only his signature on it. And in a later period they produced prints and such on those Blanco sheets. Bit dodgy but that's what he did to make some extra cash

 

Any idea why they framed it as they did? I thought maybe to put a coa next to it or something similar? Just want to ask to be sure it's not something unique that I am hurting by taking apart.

Anything that comes with a COA is immediately suspect to me.

These are not very rare. If you go on Google and type in "salvador dahli soft telephone" a lot will pop up all over the place. You will see crazy asking prices but realistically they sell for around 150 to 200

I have a native print framed in a similar fashion.
I believe it was just a novel framing style...and made the framer more money..
but,,,
it is also possible the artist used a much larger paper......and the framer or whomever , did not want to trim the original sheet..!



No one in their right mind would trim this Chee Chee........but i could see a framer....matting over the top half...
