Found this unique piece at a flea market. The seller told me a story (whether its true or not) that this piece along with many others were sewn together to make a huge blanket made for royalty... he didnt know anything else. Anyone with any insight as to what country this came from? It is very high quality, i could only imagine how beautiful a full blanket would look?!? 20190410_153604_compress_38.jpg 20190410_153408_compress_72.jpg 20190410_153438_compress_32.jpg 20190410_153446_compress_72.jpg 20190410_153451_compress_9.jpg 20190410_153424_compress_46.jpg 20190410_153502_compress_89.jpg

Welcome to the Forum, Scott! :)
I think it is a Burmese Kalaga.
Others know more about age of textiles. :)

Others will likely have more details, so always check up on your post. It’s very good to stick around like you did when you first post something. People sometimes have a few questions. ;)

Older as in 1990s? Yes, that's possible when it comes to the imports that flooded the U.S. market not long ago.

The art form is older, of course. Don't know how one would distinguish antique from made-to-look.

I'm thinking mid twentieth at the latest. Different types of work needlework are easier to identify to time periods than others. I don't know Kalagas well enough to completely, or even closely, sort it.

Someone could come on and say it was made yesterday and I wouldn't have grounds to argue.

But I'd probably think of a few.

It is a beautiful kalaga, Scott, but as the others have shown it is not unique. Judging from the fresh colours of yours, it was made in the last few years.
When these became fashionable in the West they were sold as temple hangings. Most had never seen the inside of a temple of course. The royal blanket story is new to me, it is always interesting to see what the latest stories are.
But it is very sad that people can't just enjoy the wonderful and time-consuming work that goes into items like this without an 'interesting' story. To me they are beautiful as they are, and don't need any fabrications.
