I bought this plate just because I think it's pretty, but since it's signed, I thought maybe you all would be able to ID it. It measures 11 3/4" in diameter. The design looks like it was scratched into the wet clay and then painted and fired. The tree has apples and daisies on it and it's drilled on the back for hanging. The signature was done by applying a thick coating of white glass paint, signing it in gold and then firing it. Any ideas? TY!

Also meant to say "white gloss paint" not glass paint

GERMAN OR AUSTRIAN? -- HANDARBEIT ("hand-crafted" or "hand-made") POTTERY, WALL PLATE, HAND-PAINTED, APPLE TREE WITH FLOWERS AND PAINTED RIM, HAS 7 MARKS ON BOTTOM. POSSIBLE MARKS I SEE: "CM", "FL", "UNDERLINED K IN A CIRCLE", DOUBLE "M" MARKS?

Pam, I think I have something very similar (if I can remember which storage tote I stashed it in). IIRC, the sig doodle is a stylized rabbit, and it's European.

My bowl was in the first tote I opened. I should probably by a lottery ticket tomorrow.

This is a big piece, 13.25" in diameter. The back is signed with what looks to be paint pen, "handmade in liechtenstein", with a similar doodle. I remember researching it a bit, but I can't find my notes / internet bookmark on the company or the significance of the mark. But like I said, I think I remember it being a rabbit.

I backtracked, and found the name of the company again (I think).

Gebruder Haas / Haas Brothers - Shaan, Liechtenstein

Still can't figure out what the mark means / signifies. Google translate is being ornery tonight. Plus, there are current artists named The Haas Brothers, and their info keeps getting mixed in.

    Aha!

    http://www.20thcenturyforum.com/t11323-gebruder-haas-liechtenstein

From the link: "The mark with ears of 2 hares refers to "Haas" the dialect word of the german word "Hase" = hare"

That's as far as I ever got. I was never able to verify any of the info in other listings I found (about being vintage 1960s, etc.), so I decided to put my bowl aside. Thanks for posting yours. Maybe someone else knows of a different resource that can corroborate what I found.

Chuck, thanks so much! I could never have found this information without your help. And Wendi, I didn't even figure out the hand crafted part, LOL! All I got was the beit part, but not the rest.

Everyone on line is asking a lot for these items, but not, apparently, getting their asking prices. I haven't made the keep/sell decision yet but I didn't pay much for it so it can hang around here for awhile.

    Thanks again for your help.

Wow that's excellent work! Nice plate and I was thinking Swiss also like Thun/Thune/Thoune, come to find out this is from really near Switzerland so maybe it's a regional thing.

Thanks for that link, Janet. I tried to follow up with the Liechtenstein Museum website, but I couldn't find the history posted there. I did find a listing of Keramik Haas pieces in their collection, and then Google Translate bombed again.

This is a 6 year old post. But in case anyone cares, I sold this plate at the mall for $20 (going rate at the time), paid $3. Kept it for awhile, displayed in my kitchen until another came along to take its place, you know how it goes.

Yes, of course. I knew that. Just chatting, making conversation. New member deleted the photos (I assume). Maybe after they saw how old the post was. I like your new avatar, komo. He has a cute face as most owls do.
