What are these Japanese bronze vases?

    Thought let me share this as a learning experience. I was looking at these on the internet to buy and can get the pair for a good price. But to me they look like they have been converted to something else. Or am I wrong. Does somebody know what they are? Sorry got only this picture from the seller. Should i buy them.

    I see what you are saying. The bottom pieces look like they have been added or is that a repair and there was something in that space that is now missing. I hope someone will know if these are original.

    I was thinking maybe that hole at the bottom was for a spirit burner. But what would they have warmed up. Did they make like incense burners out of them? Just fantasizing

    I was thinking that here was a glass globe or some other decorative piece that was broken or damaged and was removed. Also my fantasy.
