This is something my family has had for a while. It was told to me to have been done by a friend of my grandparents, who lived on the east coast (US). I had it reframed and the note in back was on the original. Framed it is 20x16 inches. All the information is there, but I haven’t been able to find anything about the artist. So I guess an amateur. Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you for looking. :)

P.S. I know the eagle eyed will see a label, below the note. That is just from where I got it framed. :)

    I love the home!

I'm always drawn to paintings of charming houses.

I wish I could help, hopefully someone will be able to tell you more.

That doesn't appear to be the work of an amateur.

Oh, I have been looking on and off for years now. That’s all I know about it.

Do you know the state in which your grandparents were living in 1946? Did they ever visit Sunnyside?

I can’t say for certain as to years, but they lived in what is now Astoria at one time.
Thinking about it a minute I think that time frame would be right.

I haven't found a clear match, but multiple possibilities. Not an overwhelming number of possibilities, but more than a couple.

I'm not clear on where your grandparents lived and that info might help.

    Astoria, NY.
Debora had asked about Sunnyside which is about 2 miles from Astoria, both in Queens, NY
    Thank you.

Queens is good. Astoria NY was not getting me anything. Like I couldn't find the town -- my grandparents also lived in Queens, but I don't know the area at all.

Not Sunnyside, Queens! Sunnyside is the name of Washington Irving's home in Tarrytown. Your piece might be a souvenir.

Sorry I misunderstood. I don’t think it’s a souvenir, though. My sister has another drawing by the same artist. It is 2 cocker spaniels.

That's helpful. So not a souvenir. And more likely a family friend/acquaintance. Scratchboard, apparently, is an engraving technique. Someone would have to be knowledgable to work in that medium.

    From wikipedia.org...

"From the 1930s to 1950s, it was one of the preferred techniques for medical, scientific and product illustration."

So not necessarily the work of a fine artist but someone working as an illustrator.

I’ll read up on the process, and see what I can determine. I was just curious. I guess a skilled amateur. I always liked it. :)

There is nothing about your work that suggests it was done by a skilled amateur. It may not have been done by a fine artist but it was clearly done by someone trained in both drawing and the medium.

I haven't finished researching, but a really likely contender (info from 1941 Army Enlistment):

    Name: James Bordonaro
    Birth Year: 1919
Nativity State or Country: New York
    State of Residence: New York
    County or City: Bronx
    Civil Occupation: Commercial artists
