    Hi all,
I viewed a beautiful Victorian tilt and turn table today which is about 3ft wide. It's black with beautiful papier-mâché & mother of pearl. It has gorgeous images of birds. The dealer advised that it is in the manner of Jennings and bertridge. The only issue is that it has around 3-4 cracks and has some other minor damage. The dealer has advised that he will restore before selling but it won't be perfect. I am new to the world of antiques so don't want to over pay for something... what should I be expecting to pay?
    Many thanks, Sue

    The least amount possible!
Sorry, I can't help you but if you could post a photo, others might be able too.

I just dont buy damaged stuff personally. I never get it fixed and when I do try it costs more than its worth. If he were able to restore it,then why didnt he before trying to sell it ?

He actually didn't have it on the shop floor to be fair, it was in a store room. He said it only came in in recent days. Thanks s a million for the advice

    I didn't take a photo of it today. I don't know what I was thinking !

Yeah, that would have helped, no doubt. Going to be tough without at least a photo, maybe you could ask shop to email you one.
You weren't thinking, you were having an emotional response to a piece you wanted, which is normal!

I would deal with this like Leprosy, stay away.

I wouldn't commit to buying it until you see what kind of restoration is done to it. They may make matters worse.
I suggest you call and ask him to send you a couple of photos to show your significant other. If he can't, ask if you can come back and take a couple of pictures.

If the damage is too severe, you might want to keep looking.
You could investigate some of these for condition and asking price.

WOW, fancy tables. Are they lacquered? How much are they asking for this type of piece?

Just as a warning, repairs to Japanned papier-mache are not usually easy, and the pieces are often difficult to maintain as well. Here's a PDF file from the Smithsonian that will give you quite a bit of information: https://www.si.edu/mci/downloads/RELACT/papier_mache.pdf
