Sorry the second photo isn’t better, it’s a listing I’m looking at. Do you think this would likely be pewter? Were “gills” measurements ever put on silver or silver plate? How about age?

A gill ("Jill") is a unit of measurement equivalent to approx half a cup (or a little under 150ml) or 1/4 of a pint.

    So 4 gills = 1pt, or just under 500ml.

4 gills in the UK was a Pint, 1 gill was a quarter pint.

    The US has different measurements

In the US Gills are in fluid ounces and your pints are not the same so you might as well say it in Klingon. :D

Not pewter. A copper based alloy.

The BM in EPBM probably means base metal rather than Britannia metal

If you see letters in there, you are a better man than me. Thanks for the help everyone. I googled before I posted and legit had no clue what GILLS were prior to that. Lesson, I learned something today. Next time I go to the bar I'm asking for 4 gills!

EPBM means Britannia Metal here, and it was once silver plated. BM is 93% tin, 5% antimony, 2% copper.

We pronounce gill with a hard g.

Hot water kettle which once sat on a burner stand. Not for heating the water, but keeping it hot.
