    Hey Sailors!
I have an 18th century colored litho of some European (?) city port. I would love to know the location if possible. There is one long ship that looks unusual, but I don't know if that could help ID the place. Thank you for your assistance! harbor.jpg

It was a guess, I've been there and just got a feeling it might Genoa.

It's a bit flat for Genoa, isn't it?

I don't know enough to tell an English coach from a French or otherwise. The ships could have sailed in from anywhere. The tri-corns were worn in a lot of places. The architecture doesn't look like New World so the best I may be able to say is European port?

Google reverse images pulled up the following piece by dutch artist Hendrik Koebell.

Caveat: I'm on my phone, so I'm looking at small screen. Disclaimers agree, the piece had a similar enough feel that it might be worth looking through his work.

That's an interesting view. The city is approachable by boat ferry. Don't know how many (large northern) European cities it could be but not many I wager. Stockholm perhaps?

This is maddening! My head is swimming and I'm getting seasick from looking at all these ships!

Prints often have information about artist/engraver/publisher at the lower edges, which we aren't seeing. Absolutely blank?

    kyratango Bug jewellery addiction!

Your image is Genova, lake shore, Swiss Alps, not Genoa, sea port, in Italy ;)

I was thinking maybe Amsterdam... thought I could see St Nicholas church in the background.

I may be unduly influenced by the Kobell piece (in that he is Dutch). :bag:

What is on the side of the boat in the foreground? Dinghy? Whale? None of the above?

That's very funny! Shows what a careless internet search will do for you. Here's Genoa. And its mountains.

I'd exclude Lübeck. was there last fall and the "harbour" is really the river around the island on which the old city is. the main harbour for big ship is Travemünde and Priwall.
