These came out of a storage unit a friend & I got yesterday. It had boxes with racing forms, these programs? - even some strands of horse hair in a metal band with paperwork to register it with a thoroughbred racing assn.!

What are the booklets? I looked up (as example) 1960s Churchill Downs racing program, but the ones I saw were longer, made of paper & more like a fold out map instead of a booklet.

These, along with the Bill Blass dress & Tiffany hairpin I asked about yesterday came from a lady named Gypsy Graves - who went from owning race horses to being the president/head of Ft Lauderdale college archaeology program!

Thanks in advance for any info on these.

Huh. Is it possible these are for people who are already pretty knowledgeable and therefore need a less cumbersome thing to carry around with them?

Or maybe souvenirs of the day rather than a "working" program?

This is describing a second "condition book" and what it is. It looks like some of yours are condition books though you don't mention the size, it does give measurements of the particular books it's talking about.

    https://www.paulickreport.com/news/...kend-forces-rewrite-of-second-condition-book/

"The box contained the second “condition books” of the meeting. Sixty pages in a 4 ¾ by 7 ½ inch format which would be difficult to decipher for the average fan but are a must read for horsemen since the “conditions” for races on the cards from July 29-August 9 are described therein."

There was no Triple Crown winner between the years 1948 and 1973, but these books would contain stats on the 1960 Kentucky Derby winner Venetian Way, and the 1961 Derby winner Carry Back. The books would be of interest to most thoroughbred racing memorabilia collectors.

Interesting. Depending on what info is inside them or references to any famous horses or races they might be nice to sell. The Churchill Down ones in particular especially with The Derby not to far away. I think with this kind of item, you need to do some due diligence in research as there are some horse racing collectibles that will fetch good money while others not so much.
    Good luck.

Journeymagazine, I'm just curious (and please don't go to any trouble looking for it or showing it here) but . . . have you ever found any brochures, advertisements, etc. of/for sulky racing? ;)

No but when my mom passed away last Nov one of the things she left me was a 1920s sulky & horse pedal car!

yourturn, what kind of sulky racing stuff are you looking for? We used to be in harness racing so perhaps I could point you in the right direction.

    That is so cute journeymagazine.

Pearlsnblume, that is so sweet of you, but I really don't have a "wish/want" list for sulky racing items -- I just hope to continue carrying around my happy childhood memories of that time. The postings on this thread simply resurrected my pleasant, happy, childish excitement memories of watching sulky races with my daddy once a year in the early fall in a neighboring city. ;)
