I have found several items of jewellery which seem more than “costume”, and I would be grateful for any information.
    Thanks in advance

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Hello, Jacqui -- Is there any way that you can get a clearer photo of the marks inside the rings? Enlarging the 4th photo I can see the marks the best. So maybe good enough?

And please accept my sympathies on the loss of your mother. It's very hard to lose a parent...

My sympathies, Jacqui. Are these rings you remember your mother wearing? Or did you find them among her things & not know she even owned them? The clear set of marks look like they are for Birmingham sterling (some more authoritative eyes will check me on that) & I have to wonder whether the patent that is pending is for the ring design or for the stone.

No matter how good the photos, we are not going to be able to assess any gem stones unless they give some unmistakable sign(s) of being glass, which I do not see here. If diamonds are a possibility, you will have to have a jeweller look at them to know.

First one looks as if it is 9ct gold band with the stone set into silver.
Agree with others to go to a jeweller to get the stones tested or buy your own tester if you have a lot of pieces to test.

That PAT PEND is probably for the shank treatment at the shoulder. I think those are earlier than your mother, unless she was well into her eighties - could they have been a grandmother's?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Heartfelt sympathies for your loss, and agree best to take to a jeweler for an appraisal......

Very sorry for your loss, Jacqui.
I can see some very nice old and possibly antique rings there. Stones set in silver on a gold ring is an old style. In the early 1900s white gold was introduced for settings to replace silver. Both serve to set off clear white stones, yellow or rose gold was thought to influence the perception of the colour.
Best to take them to a jeweller, like the others said. Those stones need to be checked in a more thorough way than we can from photos on a forum.
    Will you keep us posted?

Mum was 91 when she passed away, but they could have been my grandmothers. I have 10 jewellery boxes to sort through - most I know is just ordinary everyday stuff, but there are several more items that I am not sure about.
    Thanks for your help

We are here, also if you have questions about the ordinary everyday stuff.:) Some costume jewellery can be valuable as well.

Many jewellers here charge for evaulating stones. it might even be worth buying a diamond tester - not expensive on Ebay. Or, take it to somewhere like H&T pawnbrokers. Tell them you're thinking of selling, even if you aren't - they'll give you a fair idea of what they are, and a rough value.

Do please show us pictures, we love jools here, costume included.

Hopefully most jewellers are like the one I use & will take a magnified look and give you a pronouncement of diamond or glass for free. If the verdict is diamond, then it will cost to have it appraised if wanted.

They're lovely. Would not be considered 'fine' jewellery, but much nicer & more interesting than what I usually think of as 'costume' jewellery. They look to have been very well taken care of.

High street and chain jewellers here are rubbish on identifying and proper appraisals. If you want an insurance valuation, you go to a decent independent, but you need someone who knows older jewellery for this kind of thing. H&T Pawnbrokers have been decent enough on a buying offer for me in the past: multiply that by about four for insurance.

Yup, @Any Jewelry nice little bone china flower brooches. Those look 1950s and very pretty they are, too. These were made by Crown and Aynsley at the slightly lower end, Coalport and Royal Doulton at the slightly better end, although that doesn't really influence value over much. I've got that forget me not one! Those are in the five to ten pound range if undamaged. There sre collectors out there for them - they display well, for one thing.
