Schreger lines only show where ivory has been cut across the grain; if ivory, this would have been cut with it.

You are absolutely right.

 

Ivory is usually very clean and crisp and off-white and smooth. This looks too gritty, like with marrow-marks etc. So it's bone.

 

Bone has that rougher grain, which enlarging the pic of the ladle handle revealed, but when you say ivory is usually very 'clean and crisp', I'm not sure what you mean. If 'clean & crisp' is one end of a scale, what is the opposite end?

I see ivory that is everything from butter yellow to bone white, creamy shades in between & even some that is faintly pink. A range of shades are shown here:
