Wonder what the missing piece looked like. If everyone with a Sarchi to sell is to be believed, they were all made in 1920. I'm not sure anyone actually knows anything. Could just be that people see a flapper, they think 1920s, someone concluded therefore that was when a piece they were selling was made, & every subsequent seller doing research into past auction results has assumed the earlier seller knew what they were talking about & it became gospel, a meme. I don't know how P. Sarchi became Professor Sarchi either. It astounds me that no one has written about this work.

Which seem to be copying one from another. Maybe this guy was dismissed in his day as just not serious enough for anyone to make a record of him.

    Funny, they spelled SARCHI wrong...

An very important sculpture of a reposing lady on two cushions
with an oriental stool. White and colored alabaster.
Socle of grey and white marble. Signed Prof. Larchi, Italian about 1900.
Socle 25x17 cm, height 25 cm.

They misread the name as it is written in cursive on the photo. The underlining led them to see the S as an L. Shows they had no other source of info.

Once Google runs out of exact matches it starts throwing up things that aren't perfect matches. 'Larchi sculpture' beats 'Saatchi sculpture' in order of search precedence.

I was just wondering why nothing was coming up in a search for Sarchi other than variations of these sales and I have quite a few decorative arts reference books, including French and Italian ones. But, frustratingly, searching for Larchi also turns up nothing which is unusual. The prefix 'prof' also seems strange for an artist. In answer to your questions, there is only wiring for one light bulb and while I dont have the measurements, I'd sayfrom recollection the base is about 30cm wide (I agree it looks bigger in some photos).
I will definitely update you when I get hold of the signature, thanks for the sleuthing!

Nothing new here, same lack of background info. From the description it sounds very similar.

It was commissioned as a gift for an actress, so makes me wonder if Sarchi worked and lived in the US.- could be why he doesn't come up in well know italian or French databases. Where is it located, @laszlo ?

Image links were uploaded in December 2017, so not too old an appraisal.

There could, but from what we've seen of this Sarchi, he's a sculptor before he's a lamp maker. Although he reworked the same general idea of a Cleopatra-esge figure with a sphinx, I doubt any two are alike. They are not mass produced.

    For another in the genre:
