    Does anyone else notice mine is the only one (so far) with the lattice like carvings on the sides of each shelf/level?

    Nice find! Probably mid 20th century. Construction technique dating doesn't always wash when applied to foreign made items, many continue to do it like the ancestors did it. I vote for etagere also! Some called them "what not" shelves. Asian style relies heavily on naturalistic asymmetry and truncated designs. A lot of the mid-Victorian Anglo-Japanese designs mimicked the floating mons, sword buckles and geometric forms of newly re-discovered Japan.
