Hello Everyone - I bought a tea set at auction, pot, creamer, sugar, six cups and saucers. I went through Gothenburg but didn't see this particular mark (or I missed it). This creamer is damaged but the rest of the set is okay except for one cup and one saucer. I'm using this piece because it had the clearest mark. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! Don

One more picture of the mark - it might be a little clearer.

I don't know the maker, but am curious, too. I have a salt and pepper set that, if memory serves, has the same style.

    Have you tried Satsuma?

Satsuma is yellowish earthenware. Maybe try with the kutani marks.

I believe this piece would fall under 'moriage'.. the design is appears to be children moriage (they also have samurai, dragon and geisha versions too from what I've seen). I dont think its Kutani or Satsuma. You may never be able to find the mark just because Japanese marks (unlike Chinese) can be an area, pottery, specific designers name (or alias). It was made during the Art Deco period and these sets were very popular in the west. They damage really easily so be careful!

Looks like the mark is 松風, which can be read Matsukaze or Shoufuu.

Thank you, Daniel - you're right about this porcelain being thin - you can almost see through the cups. I appreciate the pattern ID - it does have a lot of raised dot decoration. And thank you khl889 for the translation. I was able to find a little info on Shofu China.

Known as eggshell. Millions of these came to Europe, often as ballast, would you believe.
