There are quite a few of us that think this type of repair is truly cool!!:happy:

If you do a search for "staple repair" you will find quite a few that have been posted over the last 8+ years. There is also a YouTube video of a man in China doing actual repairs which is absolutely fascinating.:happy:

I rather like the staple repairs too - it shows that the piece has been used and treasured if someone went to the trouble of having it repaired. I have a lovely old willow pattern sugar basin that belonged to my grandparents - my father managed to break it in the late 1920s and grandma had it stapled and it was in use for another 50 odd years! It now has pride of place on my kitchen dresser with my other antique & vintage blue and white china.
I will look on You Tube for the china repair man! I also love the kintsugi repairs using gold - the results are stunning.

Love it -- I'm still a sucker for a nice teacup and saucer and that is right up my alley with the bird decoration. Lucky you!

I got the "what did you buy THAT for" from my mother. I brought home a plate with staples in it...which is why I brought it home. The repairs cost more than the plate was worth, even new. It was a piece of cheap stoneware, but someone valued it enough to have expensive repairs made. If that plate could talk!

My pile from the estate sale yesterday. I spent a bit over $100. In the pile are a set of George V butter knives, fully hallmarked and dated 1914. Ironically, the fish set has German marks and is probably about the same age. The hankies are 50s. There's a little marked sterling frame, two sterling buckles, a small 14k chain. The lady in the hat is a watercolor; she was hiding behind a beat-up snapshot. The cherry on the sundae are the readers. First, they were sold locally, and second they were in a locked case several hours into the sale. Third, there were more in the case, all gold-filled at the same price. Fourth...these aren't filled. They're 14k white gold!

Not shown, an Orrefors bud vase engraved with an image of a statue of Olympic Runners. THe vase is marked in Swedish, so it took at bit to translate that. :D:D The bitty chain's not there either btw - but the gild-filled watch chain is.

I think it's a restring. The clasp is 1930s, but the stringing isn't.

Thanks. It's strung on a metal chain, not metal wire.

I think the wire came loose and someone fiddled with it. Maybe they replaced missing beads; the current layout looks more 1950s than 1930s.

I found this 5.5' by 2.5' Mexican wool Saltillo weaving yesterday for a great price. It's on the upstairs hallway wall today.

(...and look-- I actually can share something on the Finds thread that is not another piece of NA pottery! ;););))

It's pretty. Wouldn't fit in my house, but I don't have much if any Southwestern pottery.
