A nice little hippo, probably resin, and I bought him because he's very like the Bitossi colours. Dated and signed. Anyone recognise the mark?

    Ziegans?

The bird and lotus decoration makes me think Egyptian, but not the name.

I suspect he's some sort of modern collectible - the bird/lotus thing might well be a copy of an Egyptian hippo. I do hate indecipherable. ;)

Now this is interesting. When you google on blue hippos a whole bunch like him come up. He's definitely a copy of an Egyptian one, even the MMA did him. I thought he looked familiar.

    Aha. Got him. Veronese.

Thanks bakers, you made my mind work!

Reminds me of a newer version of William - the Egyptian faience hippo in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Seems several of these blue hippos are in museums around the world ... maybe from a museum gift shop.

Hey, thank you for looking! He was a freebie, pretty well, but I think I'll keep him. He sits nicely with my Bitossi hippo.
